my management's idea of what leadership is
The leadership team's conference call today was participated in the ceo of my company, who emphasized strongly on going above and beyond. A focus on excellence, perhaps.
Although the plant I work at is performing well in comparison to our sister plants, our high results have given us even higher goals to hit daily in production numbers.
Another point my manager emphasized on was that I shouldn't wait till I'm in a position of leadership before using my abilities to help the crew increase moral, have better production numbers, find projects to get involved in (and by being actively involved in identifying areas of improvement, make the plant to be more outstanding).
The tone of the meeting though, was somewhat... frosty. Being informed this is an 80 million dollar plant (the development of my armored vehicle in army was only SGD 2.5 million, production per vehicle is probably closer to 6 million), crewing supervisors of such a plant would require them to be able to handle all areas of administration efficiently, handle people (and the personal, and personnel problems), discipline and motivate, as well as communicate well.
A fiber glass insulation plant would after all have its niche in keeping energy cost low, if we can keep our own production cost low while maintaining excellent brand name and quality product (so the product will be used a lot).
I felt like the point coming across was that I had more growing to do, in being more thick skinned, becoming louder and being more involved.
