time and tide
the measure of time is a human idea
http://does-time-exist.info/
to compare time to a grain of sand in one's hand would be to understand the world as a dry and thirsty desert.

time is perceived in the nuances we build around understanding the passage of time
(oh dear, i've trapped myself in circular logic trying to define time)
to someone in the desert who sees the wind blowing at grains of sand, swirling dust devils around the dry land, the passage of time could be measured by the amount of sand that piles up or is blown away, hence the idea of making an hour glass
however, to a sailor, time is measured in the waves of the sea rocking a boat or breaking against the rocky (or sandy) shore.
to me, time is measured from sleeping till waking each day,
by the moments i treasure with my honey,
the moments which take our breath away.
