Cycling as a treatment for parkinsons and the netti pot
Saw on Facebook that a doctor discovered pedaling (on an exercise bike or cycling around on a bicycle) reduces the tremors and shaking in patients affected by Parkinson's disease. If proven true, the ground breaking possibilities of using cardiovascular exercise as a form of treatment for similar neuro muscular disorders could be explored.
This brings a whole new meaning to using exercise to stay healthy and improving one's quality of life. Also, it does not involve using pharmaceuticals.
This form of alternative treatment reminds me of my netti pot which is a solution of table salt and baking soda. It is made with boiled water (after cooling) and the netti pot is a tea pot shaped plastic container the size of an apple. The spout is gently placed at the opening of one nostril and as you tilt your head to one side, the saline solution of water salt and baking soda flows in one nostril and out the other. While it does sound gross, I have to say it is super effective; the effectiveness is to the extent of using Pikachu vs. any water or flying type pokemon level of effectiveness. It works better after a shower when your nostrils are clear, as the saline solution does not flow easily into the nostril when you'return plugged up.
This allows the sinuses to be cleaned, which reduces the time I take to recover from a cold from 3-7 days to 1-2 days.
Seeing as how the netti pot is 10 dollars at Walmart and the 50 pack sachets of salt and baking soda cost less than 7 dollars, it is vastly cheaper than the cough syrup or decongestants I usually rely on.
