So today I learned, "

In Sunday school today, we discussed the passage of "love your enemies, bless those that curse you .. etc from matthew 5

The class agreed in the start of the lesson that love is overused in our Hollywood generation. We tried to define love as the lesson we learnt from Christ sacrificing himself on the cross.

But it is hard to love your enemies. And your neighbor. Am I to love terrorists too? In what capacity, how the heck do I hear the direction of the spirit in showing love even on Sunday, by greeting and holding the door open for others?

And to pray for those who persecute me? This is a heavy yoke indeed.

So to be perfect, and show the love of my Father in heaven, I am to pray for my enemies, which would be a step in the right direction of recognizing my hurt, and forgiving those I feel a grievance.

How to be perfect, hmmm. Be popular and friendly? I'm sure that's not just it. There's more to this passage and I wanna know what it is in being perfect as God is perfect.

Matthew 5:43-48New International Version (NIV)

Love for Enemies

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect
